The Machine Embroidery magazine ‘SINGER Young Designer Challenge’ is on again for its’ eighth year in 2008, proudly supporting the amazing talent of our youth in the field of textiles and design.

The Challenge is open to all high school students whose textile work features machine embellishment. The work can be anything from a garment to home decorator item – but it must be an original work. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain recognition for their talent through an internationally distributed magazine.

At the end of the year, a team of judges from Singer and Machine Embroidery magazine will select an outstanding entrant to receive a fabulous prize. This is exciting news for students and their schools, as the prizes are highly appealing:

  • For the winning student – a Singer 7422 sewing machine - a computerized machine with 80 stitch functions, 30 built in stitch patterns, one-step buttonhole (2 styles), automatic needle threader and many other fabulous features.
  • For the school attended by the winning student – a Singer Futura CE 150 - an incredible embroidery and sewing machine, links to your computer, includes free software with 120 embroidery designs, transform your own ideas into embroidery or simply use clip art or download from the internet. Plus, a 10% discount on every Singer item purchased the following year.
  • Every student who has their project published in Machine Embroidery will receive a gift.
  • Students, who have completed Year 12 in prior years, may submit their works/project in the 2008 Challenge provided the work was completed whilst they were at High School. Current students may also submit their entries.
  • A display of finalist’s entries will also be shown at Craft Shows & Exhibitions throughout Australia during 2009
