Looking for a quick and economical solution for a page boy outfit, or formal shirt? Simply purchase a white school shirt and embellish it with stitches from your sewing machine. The sample is in black and white but the ribbon used behind the ladder stitch and the buttons could be in the colour of bridesmaids gowns.
Materials needed:
1 x purchased boys shirt

Black embroidery thread
- White embroidery thread
- 1 of each Black and white bobbins
- 3mm (1/8") wide white satin ribbon
- 8 buttons
- Size 90 Chromium Needles
- Tearaway Stabilizer
- General sewing requirements

Instructions:
Stitches Used:

White Honeycomb 7mm (3/8") wide
- White Solid Pyramid satin stitch 5mm ( ¼") wide
- Black Ladder stitch over 3mm ( 1/8") wide ribbon
- Black Domino style satin stitch
Method:
- Take off the buttons to be replaced with colour of your choice
- Mark with water soluble pen the placement lines where you want the embroidery to be stitched
- Undo stitching under the collar and at the hem to correspond with the markings so embroidery can be caught inside
- Stitch a 5mm ( ¼" ) wide ladder stitch using the special purpose foot in black thread over the white ribbon along the placement line
- Stitch a domino type of stitch in black on the centre front side of the ladder
- Change to white thread and stitch a 7mm ( 3/8") wide honeycomb stitch on the outside edge of the ribbon row leaving a gap of approximately 2 mm (1/16")
- In white thread stitch a 5mm ( ¼") wide solid pyramid satin stitch along the edge of the ladder ribbon row slightly over the honeycomb
- Close the neck edge and hem catching in the embroidery
- Stitch matching buttons in place on front and cuffs.
