Instructions:
Front of Bag:
Cut a strip of green organza 30cms x 7cms wide.
Cut 2 strips of orange dupion 17cms x 7cms wide.
Set up overlocker following gathering foot instructions and gather the long side of the organza to the long side of one of strips of dupion, then gather the other side of the organza to the second dupion strip.(You may have to trim the section back to 17cm length.).
Wrap a 17cm long by 5cm wide strip of organza lengthwise around the piping cord, pin to hold.
Cut 2 more strips of orange dupion 17cms long x 6cms wide.
Set up overlocker following piping foot instructions and sandwich the piping cord covered with organza between the orange dupion section with the gathered organza and the 6cm wide strip of orange dupion. (Sewing long sides together). Repeat this on the other side of the gathered organza section.
Cut 2 strips of green dupion 17cms x 7cms.
Set overlocker up for flatlock and thread up using green décor thread in the upper looper.
Flatlock together the green dupion strip to the orange dupion centre section along the 17cms sides, then sew the same on the other side of the centre section.
Back of Bag:
Cut a strip of green dupion 17cms x 16cms wide.
Fold in half lengthwise and flatlock along the fold having changed to the orange décor thread.
Now fold outside edges into the flatlock line and press to get a line to sew the sequins along each side of the flatlock.
Then take off the décor thread and thread polyester thread in the upper looper.
Following the instructions for the beading/sequin foot, sew the sequins into place along the folded lines.
Then again fold edges into the sequin line and press, as this will be the line to sew the rolled hem.
Change overlocker to rolled hem setting and again thread the orange décor thread in the upper looper, sew rolled hem on both fold lines.
Now cut 2 x 17cms x7cms wide strip of orange dupion and set up overlocker for flatlock again using green décor thread in upper looper.
Flatlock one strip of the orange dupion to the sequined section and then on the other side.
Cut both the front and back sections of the bag back to 27cms length x 16cms height, then iron on same size piece of pellon to both.
For the band at the top of the bag, cut 2 strips of orange dupion 27cms x 9cms and iron on the same size strips of interfacing the the wrong side.
Fold these lengthwise and press.
Sew right side of the opened band piece to right side of bag across the top of the bag front and back.
Now with front and back right sides together, sew down one side of bag, across the bottom and up the other side.
Lining:
Cut two lining pieces to fit bag and iron on the interfacing. You can sew a pocket into position at this point, then sew as per the bag with right sides together, but leaving an opening on the bottom edge to turn it through. Set aside for now.
Frill:
From both the orange and green organza cut 2 strips of 75cms x 4cms wide.Set up Overlocker for rolled hem and on he green organza use bronze metallic in the upper looper and polyester thread in the needle and lower looper. Rolled hem along each long side of organza.
Change to green metallic and polyester thread to sew on the orange organza. Cut off slightly more of the orange organza as you sew than the green organza to give the frill a graded affect.
Lay the orange organza over the green organza strip and using the sewing machine and long length of stitch, gather the frill up.
Pull up by hand to required length. Set this aside for now.
Rouleau Loops:
Cut 1 strip each from green and orange dupion on the bias 90cm x 4cms wide. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, sew the raw edges together on the overlocker using a 3 thread narrow stitch.
Turn through using a rouleau turner or safety pin.
Cut off 2x 5cms pieces of rouleau to use a loop holders inside the bag at each edge. Sew these into position on the right sides of the evening bag at the side seams.
Put the bag inside the lining with the right sides together, matching side seams and the top raw edges. Stitch around top of bag, then turn it through the opening in the bottom seam of the lining. Hand stitch opening closed. Push the lining down inside the bag.
Hand stitch the frill across the top of the bag also securing the band into place. Then also hand stitch beads and sequins along the frill.
Cut 1 piece each of the green and orange rouleau for the bag handles 45cms long. Thread both through the loop holders at the side seams of the inside of the bag, then knot and fray stop if required.
Shoes:
For the embellishment on the shoes, pinch up the 15 cms of frill and hand stitch into a rosette. Hand stitch this onto the shoe. Then using five pieces of 10cms of rouleau make large frog loops to sit behind and around the rosette on the shoe. Hand stitch in place, and finish off with attaching beads to centre of rosette.
